Forty-five years at the bench

I have made glass for most of my life, and I still get a little excited when a shade is lit for the first time.

My name is Douglas Lang. I am a stained glass artist, and I have spent more than forty-five years designing and building pieces for people who wanted something better than what a store could offer.

Over the years I have become known for two things in particular: official Tiffany lamp reproductions and Frank Lloyd Wright reproduction panels. Both demand patience. A single lamp shade can hold hundreds of small pieces, and every one has to be cut, ground and fitted by hand before it ever meets solder.

I also repair and restore lamp shades and glass panels, big and small, because I know how much a damaged piece can mean to the person who owns it.

Not long ago I settled in the mountains of Whitwell, Tennessee. I could not imagine a better place to work. The studio is in my house, and anyone is welcome to browse by.
